20 Butler Street
20 Butler is one of six identical row homes built by James Meehan in the early 20th century. Meehan was an engineer at the Ludlow Railyard.

With help from several donors and a loan from the Catalytic Fund, the LHS purchased this property in 2019. At the time, it was a duplex with steel stairs where the porch is now. We removed the stairs and worked with a local carpenter to build a porch to match the original one as well as rebuilding the windows to match the rest of the row. After stabilizing the property and restoring the façade, the LHS sold the building to a local businessman who completed the interior renovations and sold the property as a single-family home in 2024.
Latta Row
The Ludlow Historic Society received a grant in 2017 from the Josephine Ardery Foundation to purchase a home on the historic Latta Block at 232 Elm Street. The Latta Block on Elm Street is a five-unit row of small Victorian houses built in 1884-85 by Luella Latta, daughter of A.B. Latta, an early 19th century engineer-inventor who owned acreage in central Ludlow. Once it was renovated the row house was sold at market rate, giving the Ludlow Historic Society the opportunity to purchase other properties for restoration.
